What’s Love Got to Do with It?

"What's Love Got to Do with It " is a line from a song famously popularized by Tina Turner. As an open-ended question, it invites reflection—and today, I’d like to attempt an answer.
In a season when Valentine’s Day places love front and center, it’s easy to think of love as romance, emotion, or even a fleeting feeling. But love, in its truest sense, is far deeper and far more powerful than any greeting card could ever capture.
To make love the driving force behind everything you do, you must first understand what love truly is—and where it comes from.
The Source of Love
Scripture teaches us that Jehovah God is love. He is not merely loving; He is the very source of love itself. His love existed at the beginning of creation—before the forming of the universe, before humanity drew its first breath. Because He is love’s origin, the only way to fully understand love is to first experience His love. And that love becomes real and personal when we invite Him into our hearts.
So, What Is Love?
Scripture gives us one of the clearest and most enduring descriptions of love:
“Love is patient, love is kind
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others; it is not self-seeking.
It is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not rejoice in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.
Love never fails.”
This kind of love is eternal. It conquers hatred. It outlasts offense. It transforms hearts and restores what feels broken beyond repair.
Love as the Foundation of Life
I believe love is also the origin of family life—a reflection of the heavenly family itself. From there, love shapes cultures, systems, and even our standards of living. When love is present, dignity follows. When love is absent, fractures form. Love is not passive. It builds. It sustains. It restores.
A Child’s Insight
I still remember a conversation with my son when he was younger—a simple “what if” moment that has stayed with me.
“What if the earth is the university of love,” he said, “and everyone is here to learn how to love?”
What a powerful thought.
Love Gives
Scripture tells us:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life."
Here, Jehovah God demonstrates love through giving. From this, we can confidently say: Love gives.
So, What Does Love Have to Do with It? Everything!!!
Love is greater than every spiritual power ever known to humanity. Love is the royal power. It is the foundation, the force, and the past, present, and future.
And when we choose love, rooted in Him, we participate in something eternal.
